We had a fun and informative meeting this morning, welcoming our current Lieutenant Governor, Doug Beckham, and our Lieutenant Governor Elect, Al Demoran. We were also happy to greet several Patrick Henry High School Key Club members, including Key Club Lieutenant Governor, Ryan Lieng. This is a busy time of year, with plans in the making for officer training, fundraising events and, of course, social get-togethers!
Our Kiwanian of the Day was Dan Yelvington. He collected Happy/Sad Dollars, and we were pleased to note that we entertained only happy events in our members’ lives! Dan quizzed us on some “trick” questions that some of us actually remembered from years back! Quite a feat for some of us!
Our guest speaker was Reuben Atkatz, a Field Energy Advisor for TESLA. We arrived expecting a presentation on cars, but were surprised to discover that TESLA is way more than just a car company! Reuben filled us in on TESLA’s goal to “accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy,” not just with cars, but also in providing energy to homes and businesses. He showed us their solar panels which blend into your roof with integrated front skirts and no visible mounting hardware. The result is a clean, streamlined look. For folks looking to replace their existing roof, TESLA now has four types of solar roof tiles that look just like a regular roof, but are much more durable. They also sell Powerwalls, which store energy produced by solar panels, making that energy available when needed, day or night. Powerwalls also enable solar panels to produce energy during grid outages. We applaud TESLA’s commitment to helping people take control of their energy supply while helping us move away from the use of fossil fuels to generate energy.
Our member, Kevin Tostado, invited Reuben to speak today because he has worked with Reuben to install solar panels on his home. He was very pleased with the results and wanted to spread the good news that solar power is now a viable alternative to commercial electricity providers and is definitely the wave of the future!
Doug Grosmark and his furry friend Ollie greet Kevin Tostado and his son, Luke!
Dan Yelvington thanks Reuben Atkatz for his" powerful" presentation!
