Passport to Life Career & Education Expo - August 7, 2015
Many members of our Kiwanis family turned out for the Passport to Life Expo at San Diego City College campus. Passport to Life is a career and education expo for youth who are on probation, and is sponsored by the juvenile court system and numerous public and private organizations. The event grew from the belief that all youth, including adjudicated youth with probation histories, have the ability to succeed if they have the right training, support, and opportunities. The goal of the event is to improve their chances to succeed in life by promoting education, training, and career exploration.
This is the sixth year we have volunteered to feed the 800 young participants and 300 counselors and support staff who attend this busy event. We cooked more than 1,100 hot dogs and gave each participant a hot dog, chips, cookies, and water. Everything went smoothly, thanks to the efforts of Tony and Maria Orosco, G.A.G. Kiwanis and other local Kiwanis club members, and an energetic group of Key Club members from Patrick Henry High School and several other local high schools.
We are glad to support this worthwhile event, in the hopes that it will indeed make a difference in the lives of the young men and women we served!
