Passport to Life Career & Education Expo - August 18, 2017
Many members of our Kiwanis family turned out for the Passport to Life Expo at San Diego City College campus. Passport to Life is a career and education expo for youth who are on probation, and is sponsored by the juvenile court system and numerous public and private organizations. The event grew from the belief that all youth, including adjudicated youth with probation histories, have the ability to succeed if they have the right training, support, and opportunities. The goal of the event is to improve their chances to succeed in life by promoting education, training, and career exploration.
During this annual event, we volunteer to feed approximately 1200 young participants, counselors and support staff who attend this busy event. Thanks to our new Grocery Outlet store in Allied Gardens, we were able to serve 1200 premium hotdogs with buns and water, along with chips and cookies supplied by the event sponsors. We appreciated the rave reviews from our grateful customers! Everything went smoothly, thanks to the efforts of members from our club, especially President Kathy Wiskur, head chef, John Chandler, and Alex Zubak, who was in charge of planning and running the event. We are especially grateful to members of the Patrick Henry High School Key Club and SDSU Circle K, along with several court volunteers. With all hands on deck, we could serve everyone in record time!
We are glad to support this worthwhile event, in the hopes that it will indeed make a difference in the lives of the young men and women we served!
City College was the place to be to learn how to succeed!
