Club Meeting - Oct. 5, 2017
Happy Kiwanis New Year!
This morning we saw the changing of the guard as immediate past president Kathy Wiskur turned the gavel over to our new president, George Butterstein. George was quick to praise Kathy and all the board members for this past successful year. He also expressed gratitude for Kathy’s great organizational skills that have made
the transition so smooth. Kathy was our Kiwanian of the Day and quizzed us on our knowledge of Hawaii…her favorite place and one she hopes to visit again soon now that she is looking forward to more free time!
We also honored Natalie Petrone, this year's first Joanne and James MacDonald Student of the Month Award recipient from Hearst Elementary. Natalie was accompanied by her parents, Sandra and Mark, her teacher, Karen Jackson and principal, Jamie Jorgensen. When Doug Grosmark presented Natalie with her award and a gift certificate to Hoolies’s Restaurant, he told us that Natalie hopes to one day pursue a career in home design. Doug guessed correctly that Natalie’s favorite TV channel is HGTV! Ms. Jackson told us that Natalie is a pleasure to have in class. She is always willing to help other students and serves as a great role model and friend to her classmates. Ms. Jorgensen appreciates that Natalie can always be trusted to do the right thing and treat others with respect. Natalie has been a member of our Kiwanis K-Kids at Hearst since second grade and also enjoys soccer, tennis and playing the piano. We are delighted we could offer Natalie our kudos for being such a positive influence on her school and home community!
Plans are underway for the final Concert in the Park tomorrow night at the Allied Gardens Rec Center. Membership chair, John Crawford, has prepared note sheets that folks can fill out at our booth telling everyone why they “Love Allied Gardens.” We will post these for all to see as we enjoy the final concert of this fun music series. George asked all of us to offer suggestions for service projects, fund raisers and social events that we can consider for the upcoming year. As we “rung out the old Kiwanis year,” song master Gary Blume led us in singing Auld Lang Syne, and then had us welcome our new president with a rousing rendition of For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow. We all left our meeting energized and looking forward to a great New Year!
Gary Blume led us in a fun sing along thanking Kathy and congratulating George!
Congratulations SOM Natalie! Kathy Wiskur with SDSU Circle K members.
