The Allied Gardens 60th Birthday Celebration, held on October 18, was a big hit with the Allied Gardens Community. Hundreds of people came out to the Allied Gardens Shopping Center to enjoy Edie Odierno’s fabulous history display, the new clock and commemorative brick unveiling, 60 cent hamburgers and hot dogs cooked by our club, musical entertainment by Lewis Middle School string orchestra and Solomon Simmons Music trio, Sweet Cheeks Bakery's delicious birthday cake and Brothers Restaurant's fresh coffee. Tom Kelly, 100-year-old long-time resident, had the honor of cutting the first slice of the birthday cake. Neighbors enjoyed catching up on the news of the community, and for many, it was a reunion with school and long-time neighborhood friends.
The Allied Gardens 60th Birthday Celebration was sponsored by SpringFest Inc., Navajoevents.com, A-1 Self Storage, the Kiwanis Club of Grantville-Allied Gardens, Bollenbacher & Kelton Inc., UPS Store, with contributions from many other community partners, and assistance from Linda Lasher at Cloverfield Management, who arranged the use of Allied Gardens Shopping center for the celebration. We are grateful for the enthusiastic support from District 7 City Councilmember Scott Sherman and City of San Diego General Services. The success of the clock/brick campaign is due to the extraordinary efforts of G.A.G. Kiwanis members Kathy Wiskur, Joe Huston, John Peterson, everyone who helped spread the word, and the craftsmanship of Bricks R Us. Paving Stone of San Diego generously donated the labor and time for the brick installation, and RCP Block & Brick generously donated all of the blank bricks.
Thank you to all who helped make this a GREAT event! Happy Birthday, Allied Gardens!
